Scripture
"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." — Revelation 3:15-16
The Fire
You're comfortable. That should terrify you. Comfortable in your faith. Comfortable in your spiritual routine. Comfortable in your church attendance and token giving and occasional good deeds. You've found a spiritual temperature that doesn't disturb your life—not too hot to be fanatical, not too cold to be backslidden.
Lukewarm. Room temperature. Tepid. And Jesus says He wants to vomit you out of His mouth. That's not harsh. That's honest. He'd rather you be on fire or frozen solid. At least the cold recognize their need. At least the hot burn with passion. But the lukewarm? They think they're fine. They think they're Christians. They think they're saved. They're not denying Jesus. They're just not surrendered to Him. They believe the right theology while living the wrong life. They claim the promises while ignoring the precepts. They want heaven's benefits without hell's alternative being real enough to change how they live.
You've domesticated Jesus. You've made Him into a life coach who exists to help you achieve your dreams, not a King who demands you abandon them for His. Lukewarm Christianity is the most successful deception Satan has ever crafted. It feels like faith. It looks like faith—from a distance. But it's faith that's never been tested, never been costly, never been all-consuming.
The first-century believers were called atheists because they wouldn't worship Caesar. They were thrown to lions. They were burned as torches. They counted their lives worthless for the sake of Christ. And you? You won't even turn off a television show that mocks your Savior. You won't risk awkwardness to share the gospel. You won't sacrifice comfort to serve. You won't give up an hour of sleep to pray. Stop lying to yourself. Lukewarm isn't safe—it's suicidal. It's not moderate—it's fatal. Jesus didn't die to make you comfortable. He died to make you holy. He didn't shed His blood so you could have your best life now. He shed it to purchase you entirely. The choice is yours: be hot or be cold. But know this—lukewarm ends in the same place as cold. Outside, in the darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The Mission
Take a fast from food today. Drink only water. Every time hunger hits, use it as a reminder that comfort should not be your god. Ask God to break your addiction to ease. Ask Him to make you violently hot for Him or honestly cold—anything but this deadly, deceptive lukewarm.
